Long Tou Shan is dedicated to enhancing the wellness of everyone at the school.  Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that illnesses or problems in the body are the result of imbalances and blockages in the flow of Qi. In many instances we can bring these back into balance with a healthy lifestyle and the daily practice of Tai Chi and Qi gong. Our bodies have an amazing ability to heal themselves, but unfortunately sometimes we develop illnesses or problems that need additional help to get the Life Energy of Qi flowing in our bodies. At Long Tou Shan School we offer a number of therapies that are complementary to our daily Tai Chi and Qi Gong practice. The combination of the therapies that we offer, with the daily classes, healthy food, and the beautiful and stress free environment at the school make the ideal combination to allow the body, mind and soul to heal.

Therapies we offer at the school are:

Acupuncture – One of the main therapies within the scope of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). A typical session starts with a diagnosis of the tongue and pulse by the doctor. Based on the results, an individual treatment plan is made and will include the placement of needles at specific sites on the body. As with all therapies within TCM, the goal is to bring harmony to the body by balancing the energy of the body. Acupuncture is often combined with Moxibustion and Cupping therapies. A trip to China wouldn’t be complete without trying this amazing therapy!

Tuina Massage – Pronounced “Tway-Na”, this refers to a wide range of therapeutic massage techniques within the scope of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The goal of tuina massage is to create harmony in the yin and yang of the body by getting rid of blockages and disturbances that manifest as illness, disease, and emotional issues. Try a massage with one of our local experts!

Cupping – Cupping is a TCM therapy where plastic, glass or bamboo cups are used to apply suction and heat to meridian points on the body. Cupping is believed to rejuvenate meridians, improve the circulation of Qi, and thereby treat imbalances. The suction and negative pressure provided by cupping can encourage blood flow, loosen muscles and fascia, and sedate the nervous system. It is also used to relieve back and neck pains, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, and even cellulite can be treated with a specific type of cupping.

Moxibustion – Moxibustion is another Type of TCM therapy. It involves burning a moxa stick or cone made of ground mugwort leaves near your body’s meridians and acupuncture points. Mugwort is a special plant used all over the world for its healing properties. The heat penetrates deeply into the body like UV rays and this helps stimulate and improve the flow of Qi (energy) in your body. This increased Qi circulation can help with a range of health issues, from chronic pain to digestive troubles.

Herbal Steam Baths – Imagine being on one of our balconies taking in the amazing views while you sit in a traditional bamboo tub and undergo a powerful cleansing steam bath. A special mix of medicinal herbs is chosen for their cleansing and healing properties. This mixture is then boiled for hours in water to create a concentrated mixture that will be used for your steam bath. Winter or summer, this is an amazing treatment that you will want to try!
